In this section, come and discover tourist activities
and heritage around the River Charente (between the departments of Charente-Maritime
and Charente) and around the River Richelieu (Montérégie,
Québec).
Both of them were major communication lanes. Thereby, both the Charente
and the Richelieu valleys have gathered historical, natural, landscape,
country and cultural heritage treasures related to rivers. Moreover we can
find a lot of sports and outside recreational
activities.
The Charente was called by François 1st the more beautiful “stream”
in France. As for the River Richelieu, it is described as “Quebec's
garden” and it flows through the “valley of the fortresses ”,
so that the river refers to both land and history.
The two rivers are also punctuated with a large number of places which present
a strong link between the two territories: France and New France.
Today there are many heritage and tourist places to visit around the two
rivers. So follow the guide!
