Rochefort
Rochefort was founded in 1666 and presents a new architecture
of 17th century. Port and military arsenal here are the master words of
Rochefort, which are linked with the colonies.
With a building of 374 meters, the royal rope manufacture was the longest
maritime arsenal, in 17th century Europe. It now houses the International
Center of the Sea, with a permanent exhibition about ropes and temporaries
exhibitions dedicated to sea adventures. Behind loopholes of trees, the
royal rope manufacture keeps watching for a potential attack from the river!

The Hermione yard also represents the history between Rochefort and the
New World. A big 65 meters long ship from the 18th century is being rebuilt
there. This frigate is the one La Fayette used to sail to America in 1780.
Like the original frigate, the rebuilt Hermione should actually sail off.
