The whole catchment area with the river Charente and its affluents represents an area of 10 000 km². It stretches through four departments of the Poitou-Charentes region : Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres and Vienne as well as through a little part of the departments of Dordogne (24) and Haute-Vienne ( 87 ).
