On the coast, outside the basin (Marennes, Royan,
Oléron island), summer tourism is very developped. Sometimes,
tourism is a way to put into relief the agriculture and the breeding
(La cité de l’Huître, in Marennes).
Water tourism is important in Rochefort, but tourism
in general stays low-developped inside the catchment area (but not
in the summer). However, this sector is flourishing, with the expansion
of cultural rural tourism. In south Charente, tourism
breaks are more and more successful. More en more, river tourism
settles down, and many leisure areas appear (thanks to the success
of river cruises and canoe). In Saint-Simon, you can also navigate
on a “gabarre”.
The Haute-Charente lakes offer many leisure activities.
